Supported by a world-wide network of resources including state – of – the – art warehousing facilities, bulk fuel installations and real time freight tracking capabilities, our client provides workable resolutions to complex client requirements in the areas of food logistics, catering, retail, aviation, transport and warehousing, camp services and fuel management.

Our Client is the Logistics Division of this expanding Group and are seeking a Procurement Manager to buy fresh fruit and vegetables (FF&V). The role is based in Afghanistan. The position is permanent on an open ended contract.

Reporting into the Purchasing Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing the Afghanistan 1st Program and to improve our clients network and reputation in this area across our clients current and future client base with specific focus on FF&V and the development of an “Agri” policy. You will liaise, develop and assist to create business contract opportunities within the Afghanistan market for our client on FF&V and to co-ordinate with key stakeholders involved in this environment.
Specifically you will develop new business opportunities within the Afghan Territory for FF&V. This will be conducted through business development within the region, meeting with local farmers and growers, Afghanistan Investment Support Agency, Government Agencies, Local Administration, Lobby Groups to identify key cash crops – suitable for the Military and sustainable for the future growth of Afghanistan.
You will liaise, maintain and develop the existing Afghan FF&V business with our clients existing supplier base.
You will design and manage the implementation of contracts for FF&V – LMR products and you will also implement a continuous improvement program which means re-visiting existing business at regular intervals.
You will support and create a network (Afghanistan 1st Program stakeholders) through regular meetings and liaising with NGO’s and US Government initiatives linked with senior US Military and ISAF personnel.
Finally you will develop relationships with growers to meet key strategic initiatives and will develop our clients Agriculture Policy and implement a program to meet these objectives.



Knowledge and Skills:

You will be an accomplished Purchasing Manager / Buyer of fresh fruit and vegetables with your purchasing experience gained in the retail or foodservice / wholesale sector.

An understanding and knowledge of US food business standards would be extremely useful.
Your experience should ideally be supported by a Degree in agriculture or related subject.

Knowledge of HACCP and ISO 9000 standards would be extremely useful.

Superb communication and negotiation skills and instant credibility are essential supported by high personal energy levels and enthusiasm.

You should possess excellent communication skills in English and ideally one other language and be able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner and work to tight deadlines.

Good interrogation skills and superb communication skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.

You will be resourceful with a flexible outlook, have the ability to multi-task in order to handle competing priorities and be able to fit in to an international dynamic and multi-cultural environment.

Finally you should possess a Drivers Licence and be IT / pc literate.

This is an outstanding challenge for an accomplished Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Manager looking for something different.

The basic salary is paid in US Dollars and is tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee.

In addition there is an annual profit share bonus payable after 12 month’s service which is also paid in US Dollars and tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee.

Accommodation, laundry, local transport, medical / health insurance, permanent disability and death benefit, bereavement leave and meals are all provided free. In addition you will have the use of a phone to call family and friends and also use of the internet for e-mails etc.

Ex-Patriate employees will receive 63 days annual leave per year and the working rota is approximately 14 weeks on, 3.5 weeks off.

In addition Ex-Patriate employees will receive 3 paid return economy flights per year. Mobilization and De-Mobilization flights are also paid for by our client.
