Director of Health Information Management

Provides leadership for the Health Information Management Department

• Experience in Health Information Management
• Plans, organizes, coordinates, direct and evaluates the operations of the HIM Department program
• Coordinates HIM functions with clinical operations departments within the hospital and PHCs to enhance physician-hospital relationships as well as implementing and supporting HIM activities at the facility level for department operations, reimbursement opportunities and various program implementations.
• Oversee and Manages the Health Information Management Department, Government Compliance, Reimbursement, Release of Information, Transcription Management, Project Management, Electronic Health Records
• Collects and maintains a management information system sufficient to submit period reports for quality improvement activities
• Attends required in-service to maintain/enhance knowledge and skills
• Policy and Procedure Development and Implementation
• Provides procedural direction/training to direct reports and hospital and clinic staff as required
• Interviews, hires, coaches, counsels, trains and performs performance evaluations to HIM Department staff
• Assists in development of department’s budget and operation thereof

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelors Degree from an accredited university
• RHIT or RHIA
• Advanced Degree preferred
• 10 years experience in senior management and supervision role in a medical center health care environment, including extensive knowledge and experience in HIM services: established policies, procedures, standards and departmental objectives; supervised functions, including record completion, transcription, indexing, abstracting, coding, research, filing, storage, retrieval and maintenance and customer service
• Excellent Verbal and Written communication and presentation skills
• Strong client relation skills
• Computer knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel and Powerpoint
• Ability to interpret reports and documentation
• Authoritative leader
• Knowledge of medical terminology, time management and strong leadership skills a must.
