Organizational Relationships;Internal Reports to: Director of NursingResponsible for: Nursing Managers and Nursing Department staff in assigned areas Liaises with Clinical and Non Clinical Head of Departments and Staff External; Professional Institutions within the UAE, relevant Government Departments

Job Summary The Assistant Director of Nursing /Ambulatory & Dental (ADON) compliments the Director of Nursing (DON) Services in planning, developing and supervising the activities of licensed and non-licensed personnel who provide health care and nursing services to STH and Dental facility. This position assists with the development and implementation of nursing services, objectives, policies and procedures in accordance with International and Local regulations and participates in the accreditation process Oversees the establishment and day to day running of the Emergency Room, Dental & Outpatient Clinics.

Scope of Service Duties and Responsibilities.· Actively participates in upholding and promoting the vision and culture of Sharjah Teaching Hospital (STH)· Comply with all STH policies and procedures and fire regulations · Participate in commissioning assigned areas and associated Clinical areas · Participate in all aspects of the International Accreditation program to assist STH attain and maintain international accreditation standards
Dental Facility· Responsible for overseeing the establishment and implementation of standards and working practices.
General · Assist in the supervision of management and functioning of assigned areas· Provide a safe and positive workplace by enhancing occupational health and safety requirements, as well as monitoring the operations and continuous improvement of the safety management system.· Oversees the clinical operations of the Nursing Department. · Participates in the design, implementation and evaluation of nursing systems that ensure consistent delivery of care and maintains and promotes quality and safe practices over a 24 hour period· Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of facility policies, procedures and guidelines following internationally accepted best practice guidelines on-going basis related to nursing department clinical practices, safety, continuous quality improvement, infection control and risk management· Participate in regular environmental/safety rounds, liaising with outside organizations as required to ensure a safe and clean environment for the patient, relatives and visitors.· Maintains accurate departmental related documentation and provides relevant reports to management · Liaise with medical staff with regard to provision and implementation of quality patient care.· Shares responsibility for backing up RN staff on a twenty four seven basis and participates in nursing administrative calls. · Act as patient advocate within the multi disciplinary team in the clinical setting to assist in resolving health problems demonstrating tact, diplomacy, patience and compassion; · Provide leadership and support for direct reports, appraise their performance and ensure that staff receive appropriate performance management, professional training and development opportunities;· Participate in recruitment and retention strategies for selecting Nursing Department staff, · Attends assigned committee and meetings representing the Nursing Division as a member/chairperson, · Recognize, accept and support individuals from all different cultural backgrounds· Works any shift as per the duty roster of the Nursing Department when designated· Undertake additional tasks or duties not previously mentioned commensurate with training and ability as/when assigned by Director of Nursing · In the absence of the DON when designated performs the duties of the DON.
Self Development Participate in internal orientation, mandatory ,ongoing education programs Attend external conferences, workshops, seminars and courses that will enhance and maintain a current your knowledge base and your licensure requirements
Position Requirements;QualificationsRequired Graduate of an accredited school of nursing holding a Bachelors Degree in Nursing / Diploma of Nursing ( 3 yrs Course ) Post graduate studies/certificate in midwifery or associated field Desirable BLS certificate, Postgraduate degree from an accredited University in education or management.
Licenses/RegistrationCurrently licensed as a Registered Nurse with a Professional Organization in country of origin UEA-MOH License (required within three months of employment)
Position criteriaMust have worked 3 years in an International Accredited Hospital 10 years post graduate nursing experience plus 5 years in a senior nursing position in a specialist field plus a minimum of 3 years in a Nurse Management. Held a education position and able to develop and provide Educational Programs/activities to individuals, small & large groups Advantage previous commissioning experience as the Team leader /Manager for a unit/department
Other Skills/Abilities Demonstrate proven success in collaborating with Head of Department Able work in, lead and influence a diverse employee base within a muliti-cultural environment Ability to develop and coordinate team focused objectives Able to adapt to organization and environmental changes Data management & analytical skills Computer literate familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point Must be fluent in written and spoken English ,spoken Arabic skills desirable Education / training experience required
