1. Sharjah Teaching Hospital
Sharjah Teaching Hospital is a private, not-for-profit 210-bed hospital plus a 114 chair dental service, located at the University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
The Hospital was established by HH Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Ruler of Sharjah with the objective of providing world standard healthcare.
The hospital will employ approximately 770 employees with an anticipated turnover in excess of Dhs.200million per year.
Sharjah Teaching Hospital is strongly affiliated with the tertiary sector via the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Sharjah which has a relationship with Monash University in Melbourne Australia for their medical and pharmacy degree courses and the University of Adelaide for their dental degree course.
2. Position Summary
The Chief Medical Imaging Technologist will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Medical Imaging Department at STH. Reporting to the professor of Radiology, they will be responsible for all aspects of the department’s operations including service provision, staff and rostering, budget control, equipment maintenance and representing the department at a Campus level. The Chief MIT will also be a member of the Clinical Risk Committee.
Further, the Chief MIT will take a lead role in the further development and future implementations of the PACS and RIS systems across STH.

4. Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Administrative
Responsible for the management of a well co-ordinated, integrated and efficiently functioning Radiology Department with special regard to staff organization, training and motivation
Clinical
To perform radiographic examinations and associated duties in accordance with standard radiographic practice, departmental policy and the Code of Ethics of the Institute of Radiography
Educational
In consultation with the Tutor M.I.T., assist in guiding the clinical practice of undergraduate, intern and P.D.Y M.I.T’s to ensure that their activities are in accordance with standard radiographic practice, departmental policy and the Code of Ethics of the Institute of Radiography
5. Key Performance Criteria
Administrative

Responsible for day to day management and provision of Diagnostic Imaging Services at STH characterised by the highest standards of quality, efficiency, safety and patient care
In conjunction with the Professor of Radiology, develop and be responsible for the budget and financial performance of the department.
Liaise and work with staff of other units and departments within the hospital.
Liaise with staff of other Radiology practices, equipment and supply companies, educational institutions etc.
Ensure efficient utilisation of staff and equipment to meet patient workload.
In conjunction with Quality Manager, STH, maintain and develop the quality assurance program for Radiology Services.
Assist with and maintain standards that would assure Accreditation or similar guidelines.
Prepare and implement staff rosters.
Assist with the maintenance and repair of radiology equipment.
Ensure the availability of supplies necessary for the proper operation of the Department.
Take a lead role in the strategic direction with technology, planning and implementing of upgrades to the PACS as the technology and the needs of the Health Service mature, and life cycle monitoring for the timely replacement for hardware and software.
Be actively involved in appropriate committees as requested.
Liaise frequently with other radiographer to discuss the operation of the Radiology Department
Act as (or delegate) the Radiation Safety Officer for STH.
Clinical
Undertake radiological imaging examinations as may be required from time to time.
Perform such radiographic examinations as requested in writing by a qualified medical officer.
Perform such examinations in accordance with standard radiographic practice, departmental policy and the Code of Ethics of the Australian Institute of Radiography or similar.
Consistent with examination requirements, afford radiation protection to patients by all appropriate means.
Complete all such clerical duties as are normally associated with the medical imaging of patients in the Radiology Department, including processing of request forms, patient scheduling, recording of examinations, handling enquires re such procedures and preparing radiographs for reporting
Understand and comply with the Hospital’s safety policies
Educational
Assist in the clinical training of undergraduate, intern and PDY M.I.T’s.
Continually upgrade knowledge for personal and professional development. Keep up-to-date with modern trends, techniques and practices in the field of Radiological imaging and management.
Attend relevant educational lectures and conferences.
Maintain current knowledge in new and evolving technologies, particularly in the areas of PACS and RIS.
Assist in the organising of staff training and development for Radiology personnel
Safety
Assist in the provision and maintenance of an optimal environment protecting the patients and staff from the dangers of radiation exposure, chemical fumes, accidental fire and other hazards.
Physical Skills
Physical ability to operate all equipment necessary for the satisfactory completion of the full range of radiological examinations performed in the Hospital, and the duties of the Chief M.I.T as described in this position description.Other Duties
The Chief M.I.T may be required to engage in any or all, but not limited to, the duties listed in the above position description. The Chief M.I.T may be required to assist with such other duties from time-to-time in the operation of the Radiology Department or as determined by the Professor of Radiology.

7. Training and Development

8. Quality
STH is accredited by The Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation. Staff are required to actively participate in quality improvement activities within the Department which meet the requirements of the Accreditation body.

10. Performance Development
A Performance Review, that includes agreed targets, will occur six (6) months from commencement and then annually on the basis of the duties and responsibilities outlined in this position description. This is an opportunity to review personal and the allocated work unit’s service performance, facilitated by the setting of objectives/goals and ongoing evaluation of performance and achievement. Objectives will be developed annually, documented, discussed and agreed with the immediate line manager, who will act as the assessor. The incumbent is expected to demonstrate and show evidence annually of on-going self and allocated work unit’s service development.
11. Key Selection Criteria Qualifications/Experience
Essential
Qualifications that would ensure eligibility for membership of Institute of Radiography of similar
A Statement of Accreditation or equivalent issued by the Institute of Radiography or similar
Current Certificate of Registration to practice Medical Radiation Technologists Board or similar
Desirable
Completion or working toward completion of appropriate post graduate qualifications in management/administration.
Experience:
Significant experience in an administrative capacity in the field of medical imaging and/or employment experience as a Senior Grade MIT in a well recognised international hospital. Previous experience at a Chief or Deputy Chief level will be regarded, as will experience in the development/implementation and/or overseeing of a PACS environment.
