Plant and Equipment Manager

A. POSITION SUMMARY
To establish, maintain and manage the Plant and equipment function with due consideration to quality and safety standards of high order. To be responsible for the function in terms of the quality of the equipments used, manage and motivate the manpower and manage the function with in the set budget.
B. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Establish operating budget for the department, control costs, and report on performance and exceptions
2. Establish planned maintenance procedures for all plant and equipment, in accordance with manufacturers recommendations
3. Ensure that regulatory requirements are met and that relevant licenses and permits are valid and maintained
4. Limit spares in stock and establish an effective storekeeping policy
5. Establish field service units to address day-to-day servicing and maintenance of plant and equipment on all sites
6. In coordination with the Purchasing department, establish an “approved list” of suppliers for spares and consumables
7. Establish appropriate resources to limit the down time of plant and equipment and report on corrective and preventive measures taken
8. Arrange for replacement plant and equipment on site where repairs will take longer than three working days
9. Ensure timely and efficient deployment of plant and equipment to commence projects
10. Maintain database of equipment and cost, and report on status and availability
11. Establish measurements for plant and equipment performance, monitor, control and report
12. Establish sufficient and competent plant and equipment Operators, evaluate their performance and identify training needs
13. Liaise and coordinate with Operations Director the plant and equipment requirements for each project to ensure that the appropriate plant and equipment is deployed to satisfy the project requirements
14. Identify requirements for new and/or replacement plant and equipment, develop the user requirement specifications for the needed plant and equipment, and initiate the procurement process to ensure the timely delivery of the said plant and equipment
15. Establish safe working practices and safety awareness, and ensure that all safety mechanisms are in proper working condition
Job Specification:
Electro-Mechanical / Mechanical Bachelor’s degree from USA/UK/South Africa/Australia/NZ university OR Technical qualification and trade license such as, Mill Wright/Fitter and Turner/Diesel Mechanic with management experience
Minimum 10 years experience in repair and maintenance of heavy engineering plant and equipment
Reporting, budgeting and communication skills
Working in organization with quality management system, such as ISO 9001:2000

Competencies:
Detail oriented.
In-depth understanding of the working of various machines and equipments.
A thorough man manager.
Ability to work under pressure and achieve the targets.
Excellent communication skills and leadership skill are very much essential for the position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The position requires 40 to 50% physical work as such there will be physical demands and the candidate must ensure dexterity.
