| Manager Operating Room Manager Operating Room POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title/GradeDepartment Manager Operating Room (008b)(Grade 4)Nursing –Operating Room /Endoscopy Suite Organizational Relationships;Internal Reports to: Director of Nursing via the Assistant Director of Nursing-Specialty Areas Responsible for: Charge Nurses, Registered Nurses, Instructors, Nurse Assistants and Technicians Liaises with Head of Quality, Education and Infection Control Coordinators, Clinical and Non Clinical staff and Support Services related to the OR services External; Relevant UAE and International Organizations associated with Operating Rooms. Other relevant health organizations, Equipment suppliers Terms & Conditions;The employment terms and conditions for this position are specified in the individuals Employment Contract Job Summary;The Operating Room Unit Manager’s responsibilities include the day to day operational management of the Operating Room,(OR) Endoscopy Suite and works closely with Medical & Clinical staff, and senior staff from Recovery Room( RR), Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD ) and the Nursing Units Ensuring that nursing practices and management systems are consistent with STH and International Accreditation standards Scope of Service Duties and Responsibilities.· Actively participates in upholding and promoting the vision and culture of Sharjah Teaching Hospital (STH)· Comply with all STH policies and procedures and fire regulations · Participate in commissioning the Operating & Endoscopy Suite ,RR Day Surgery and CSSD and associated areas Clinical areas · Participate in all aspects of the International Accreditation program to assist STH attain and maintain the international accreditation standards · Provide a safe and positive workplace by enhancing occupational health and safety requirements, as well as monitoring the operations and continuous improvement of the safety management system.· Plans for efficient unit functioning to assure quality patient care; day-to-day surgery department staffing, OR procedure scheduling and patient flow.· Oversees the all daily activities associated with the effective operation of the OR including pre-surgical scheduling, OR · Maintains a close liaison with associated services including Anesthesia, Recovery Room, Day Surgery and CSSD · Develop, manage and maintain strong professional relationships with medical staff and multidisciplinary teams· Provides supervision of surgery department staff and medical students· Maintain relevance to clinical area of practice by ensuring staff attend appropriate education sessions through the provision of OR orientation, competency assessment and ongoing training· Maintains accurate departmental related documentation and provides relevant reports to management · Participate in the evaluation and review of equipment and clinical supplies · Contribute to and deliver outcomes as agreed in the STH budget;· Contribute to other revenue strategies that may be outside the Nurse Unit Manager’s primary area of responsibility as determined by the DON.· Is accountable for the provision of a service across twenty four-seven· Participate in recruitment and retention strategies · Attend assigned committee and meetings representing the Nursing Division as a member/chairperson· Recognize, accept and support individuals from all different cultural backgrounds· Work any shift as per the duty roster of the Nursing Department when designated· May be directed by Director of Nursing/designee to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. · In the absence of the ADON when designated performs the duties of the ADON. Self Development Participate in internal orientation, mandatory ,ongoing education programs Attend external conferences, workshops, seminars and courses that will enhance and maintain a current your knowledge base and your licensure requirements Position Requirements;QualificationsRequired Graduate of an accredited school of nursing holding a Bachelors Degree in Nursing / Diploma of Nursing ( 3 yrs Course )Post graduate certificate /degree in Operating Room /Endoscopy Desirable BLS certificate, Master degree In nursing, management or specialist field Licenses/RegistrationCurrently licensed as a Registered Nurse with a Professional Organization in country of origin UAE-MOH Licenses (required within three months of employment) Position criteria Must have worked in an International Accredited Hospital Gained adult and Pediatric surgical experience in General, ENT, Gyn/Ob, Ortho, Ophthalmology, Urology and Endoscopy Previous commissioning experience as the Team Leader /Manager for an OR/Endoscopy Suite Minimum of 10 years of progressive clinical and management experience in the Operating Suite.Plus a minimum of 5 years as a Manager of an ORExperience in the management of Infection Control Able to develop and provide Educational Programs/activities to individuals, small & large groups Other Skills/Abilities Able to adapt to organization and environmental changes Able work in, lead and influence a diverse employee base within a muliti-cultural environment Ability to develop and coordinate team focused objectives Computer literate familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point Able to produce reports statistical data Must be fluent in written and spoken English ,spoken Arabic skills desirable Review date This Position Description may be changed from time to time on a needs basis and the revised version will prevail The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.
