| Infection Control Coordinator Infection Control Coordinator POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title/GradeDepartment Coordinator Infection Control (007a)(Grade 3)Nursing –Infection Control Unit Organizational Relationships;Internal Reports to: Director of Nursing via the Assistant Director of Nursing/Infection Control Responsible for: N/ALiaises with Administration, Nursing, Clinical, Non Clinical and Support Services Head of Departments and staff External; Relevant UAE and International Organizations associated with Infection Control development. Other relevant health organizations Terms & Conditions;The employment terms and conditions for this position are specified in the individuals Employment Contract Job Summary;The Infection Control Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the Infection Control department and promoting continuous quality improvement methodology and epidemiological principles within STH. Responsible for the hospital-wide Infection Control Program and the development and presentation of mandatory and ongoing educational programs relevant to Infection Control. Scope of Service Duties and Responsibilities.· Actively participates in upholding and promoting the vision and culture of Sharjah Teaching Hospital (STH)· Comply with all STH policies and procedures and fire regulations · Participate in commissioning of the Infection Control Department & STH · Participate in all aspects of the International Accreditation program to assist STH attain and maintain international accreditation standards · Establishes an Infection Control Department · Plans, directs and manages the overall operation of the Infection Control Department· Participate in development, implementation and monitoring of policies & procedures and hospital-wide plans relevant to infection control in line with local and international mandates /regulations · Provide strategic leadership and operational implementation of STH Infection Control Program. · Develops and conducts hospital-wide orientation, mandatory and ongoing education/training programs as mandated or recommended by International Accreditation Standards and UEA regulatory agencies for staff, patients and relatives · Develops monitors and implements infection control best practices organization wide which will eliminate or reduce the risk of infection within the environment. · Performs facility wide Environmental Rounds in coordination with Environmental Services, Security and Facilities team member and report findings to relevant Committees, Departments Heads · Inspects environment and observes personnel activities for the purpose of detecting possible infection hazards and to evaluate compliance with hospital infection control policies. · Coordinate the collection of data, analysis, interprets and presents surveillance reports on infection control issues to relevant Departments, Committees and Government organizations. · Provide reports and documentation as per management and government requirements/regulations· Takes action, as directed by the Infection Control Program statement to prevent or correct potential infections. · Collaborates with outside vendors and all departments re the introduction and education of new equipment relative to infection control issues . · Participate in the evaluation and review of equipment and clinical supplies in line with Infection Control local and international mandates · Participate in the provision of a safe and positive workplace by enhancing occupational health and safety requirements, as well as monitoring the operations and continuous improvement of the safety management system· Attends assigned committee and meetings to ensure Infection Control issues are addressed as a member/chairperson· Recognize, accept and support individuals from all different cultural backgrounds· Work any shift as per the duty roster of the Nursing Department when designated· May be directed by Director of Nursing/designee to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Self Development Participate in internal orientation, mandatory ,ongoing education programs Attend external conferences, workshops, seminars and courses that will enhance and maintain a current your knowledge base and your licensure requirements Position Requirements;QualificationsRequired Graduate of an accredited school of nursing holding a Bachelors Degree in Nursing / Diploma of Nursing ( 3 yrs Course )Post graduate studies/certificate Infection Control. Desirable BLS certificate, Post Graduate degree in Infection Control or a relevant health science or related discipline i.e. Microbiology, Clinical Epidemiology. Licenses/RegistrationCurrently licensed as a Registered Nurse with a Professional Organization in country of origin UAE-MOH Licenses (required within three months of employment) Position criteriaMust have worked a minimum of 5years in an International Accredited Hospital 10 years post graduate experience of which 5 years in Infection Control in a senior position A minimum of 5 years in a Manager role in Infection Control Previous commissioning experience as the Team Leader /Manager for a unit/department Able to develop and provide Educational Programs/activities to individuals, small & large groups Current knowledge of relevant Acts and Regulations related to Infection Control Other Skills/Abilities Have knowledge of epidemiological principles, statistics, microbiology and infectious diseases. Able to adapt to organization and environmental changes Able work in, lead and influence a diverse employee base within a muliti-cultural environment Ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team. Ability to develop and coordinate team focused objectives Proven data management & analytical skills,Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure and achieve results against targetsComputer literate familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point Must be fluent in written and spoken English ,spoken Arabic skills desirable Review date This Position Description may be changed from time to time on a needs basis and the revised version will prevail The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. The Hospital was established by HH Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Ruler of Sharjah with the objective of providing world standard healthcare. The hospital will employ approximately 770 employees with an anticipated turnover in excess of Dhs.200million per year. Sharjah Teaching Hospital is strongly affiliated with the tertiary sector via the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Sharjah which has a relationship with Monash University in Melbourne Australia for their medical and pharmacy degree courses and the University of Adelaide for their dental degree course. | |
