Overview:

The Field Control Engineer is a key member of Chevron’s Terminal Automation Support Staff in San Ramon, providing instrumentation and control technical support, as well as long-term strategic technical recommendations for the automation systems at Chevron’s network of more than 40 proprietary Light Products Terminals in North America. These systems include equipment such as Windows-based servers, PLCs, various control and measurement equipment, and distributed I/O equipment. The Field Control Engineer is responsible for the design, commissioning and technical support for the automation systems that operate these terminals, in partnership with Operations and Engineering personnel.

Position Details: Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

• Provide technical support for instrumentation and control systems at 40+ North America Marketing Logistics Terminals to maintain safe, reliable operations.
• Troubleshoot field control and other automation issues by remotely connecting to the automation systems and working by phone with operators or technicians to resolve.
• Maintain working knowledge of all aspects of terminal automation systems. • Be adept at isolating problems and implementing or recommending solutions.
• Act as technical subject matter expert, and provide hands-on technical support for all aspects of control systems.
• Understanding of GE 90 series PLC architecture.
• Develop and support GE 90 Series control logic (ladder logic) used for Terminal operations.
• Provide occasional after-hours on-call support on a rotating schedule with other team members to provide 24/7/365 coverage for 40-terminal network.
• Assist with Capital Projects by Designing and Deploying Appropriate Automation Solutions
• Travel onsite to assist with startups. This includes startups for new equipment installations or major new facilities within a terminal where automation is a component of the new facility.
• Develop and utilize processes and tools to improve reliability of automation systems.
• Be knowledgeable of all devices utilized in the Automation Systems used at the Terminals.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

• Minimum 5 years practical experience in project and support work related to process control systems, instrumentation and PLCs.
• Knowledge of process control systems and networks (PCN’s), such as terminal automation systems, SCADA systems, and PLC’s.
• Experience in troubleshooting and in commissioning of new equipment
• Must be a team player with a positive work attitude.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
• A customer service attitude and focus

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree Preferred in Electrical Engineering, but other engineering disciplines
acceptable
